Press release issued by the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, on the anniversary of the Israeli Occupation Forces’ withdrawal from Gaza
On this day 13 years ago, the Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was forced to withdraw his forces from the Gaza Strip under the intense pressure of the Palestinian resistance after 38-year-long attrition war with the Israeli Occupation.
Such a victory is a proof that the option of resistance is the only path to liberate Palestine and defeat the Israeli Occupation whose will was broken in Gaza. The Israeli withdrawal from the strip is the first milestone since the 1948 Nakbah because the Israeli Occupation was compelled to disengage leaving 21 destroyed settlements.
Despite the attempts of some sides to underestimate such achievement, which was a turning point that ushered in a new era of conflict, such a victory had to be invested for the liberation of Palestine following the terrible consequences of Oslo Accords.
The Palestinian people though continue to pursue the option of resistance through their participation in the Great March of Return until their demands are met, including their right to return to their homeland from which they were forcibly displcaed in 1948 and to lift the seige.
On this anniversary, the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, states the following:
First: The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas hails the Palestinian people inside and outside the occupied Palestinian territories for their steadfastness in the face of the Israeli Occupation and support of the Palestinian resistance while standing up for their rights.
Second: Hamas reiterates the necessity of holding the Great March of Return and renews its support to the masses taking part in the popular protests demanding their right to return to their homeland and lift the siege.
Third: Hamas restates that it will continue adopting the option of resistance, including the armed struggle, as a strategic choice to defend the Palestinian people and restore their rights.
Forth: The option of negotiation has dismally failed leaving catastrophic consequences on the Palestinian cause; it only supported the Israeli plans targeting the cause.
Fifth: All the political agreements, especially the Oslo Accords under which the Jerusalem and refugee issues, alongside the dispute on borders and water, were delayed to the final status negotiations, had failed in preserving the Palestinian people’s constants.
Sixth: Hamas calls on the Palestinian Authority’s President, Mahmoud Abbas to halt security collaboration with the Israeli Occupation and end his arrest campaigns aganist the Palestinians in the West Bank.
Seventh: Hamas expresses its rejection to ‘the deal of the century’ along with all the schemes and plans aiming to liquidate the Palestinian cause or abolish the Palestinian people’s rights.
Eighth: Hamas urges the Palestinian Authority’s President, Mahmoud Abbas to lift his unfair sanctions imposed on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip who are standing steadfast in the face of all conspiracies targeting their cause.
“The fate of Netzarim is the fate of Tel Aviv,” the Israeli PM Ariel Sharon had once said, thinking that he could keep his words. However, the Palestinian resistance had thwarted his plans preventing him from fulfilling his promise.
